Tragic News

Michael Bell the webmaster at jaxstatefan.com was killed yesterday in an auto accident.
I'm so shocked to hear about this. I was just emailing him last week about upgrading his site. He was a big Gamecock fan and was really excited about the football team this year.

Congratulations to the Baseball & Softball teams. Great season for both.

Wish I could have made the trip to Tuscaloosa to see the ladies play in the NCAA regional. They beat FL State twice and looked real good vs Alabama in the title game. I got to watch it on ESPN2.

After finishing first in the regular season, the Baseball team travels to Paducah, Ky this week for the OVC Tournament. The guys carry one of the longest win streaks in the country (16) into the tournament. Good luck.

I'm finished taking pictures until August. I guess Fan Day will be the next update to the pictures. I'll continue to update the jigsaw puzzle during the summer. I hope to make some minor changes to the website also.

Have a great summer and hope to see you in August when Soccer, Volleyball and Football get started Can't wait!

Go Gamecocks

Congrats to Coach McGinnis on winning her 500th softball game at JSU. Just wish I could have been at the game. She won it playing at Kennesaw, but we had a great party after the game Sunday! Softball will have their final home games of the year Thursday evening when Birmingham-Southern comes to town for a doubleheader.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll host the OVC Softball Tourney. Not sure of the "magic number" but we are in first place and looking pretty good right now. It will probably go down to the last weekend before we know for sure. We have two more series and both are on the road.

Baseball will be home this weekend. They'll be hosting EKU. It's race weekend. I wonder where they found rooms!

Should be a great weekend for softball. Looks like the weather will finally be ok. We'll be back in OVC action playing Eastern Illinois. Sunday is Senior Day, so looking for a good fan turnout.

The season is rapidly coming to a close. Right now the softball team has a 2 1/2 game lead over EKU. Including EIU we only have 3 series left. Austin Peay and SEMO remain. Both are away.
The OVC Championship begins May 8. Looks like (hopefully) we will be hosting.

Baseball is only a game behind Samford. First or second will be good for the tournament which starts May 21.

I finally got to get some tennis pictures this past weekend. Wish I could shoot more, but like golf, most of these events are held during the week.

Hope to see you at softball (or the 7 on 7 soccer) this weekend.

Good weekend for JSU sports. Softball swept Eastern Kentucky, baseball took 2 0f 3 from Samford, track and both tennis teams won. Congrats to all the athletes.

Softball plays Samford Wednesday at home. It is "blackout night" so if you come, be sure to wear black.

Baseball is home next weekend. SEMO is coming in for a doubleheader Saturday and single game Sunday.

Tennis is also finally home after a long road trip. They play Morehead State Friday and EKU Saturday.

Congrats to several of the teams for weekend wins. Softball swept TN State, baseball took 2 from Austin Peay and Women's tennis swept TN Tech.

We have a spring soccer game scheduled for Wednesday night. Don't quote me, but I believe it starts at 7PM. Weather should be good so I'm looking for a good turnout for that.

Baseball and softball are home next weekend. I hate these conflicts. Both have doubleheaders Saturday starting at 1PM. I'll probably shoot baseball Saturday and softball Sunday.

We have our only home track meet Saturday also starting at 10AM. I plan to get some pictures from this event.

Just a quick note. I'll be at the softball games this weekend (weather permitting). We play Tennessee State in a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game Sunday. The ladies totally demolished Samford Wednesday winning in Birmingham.

We had a great turnout for the baseball game against Alabama. Hope a few of the "first timers" will come back for some more games this year. We play a conference series against Austin Peay there this weekend.

What a wild weather weekend. Sunday's baseball games had a little of almost everything. Started in the rain, sun came out and warmed up. Then clouded back up and had a severe thunderstorm warning (no rain). Cleared again, got very windy and cold. Hopefully tonight's baseball game will stay dry.

Think the softball team will ever play again? The game today was cancelled by Alabama State. We (finally) are home this weekend with a series against OVC rival TN Martin. Doubleheader on Friday then a single game Saturday. Both the baseball and softball start the same times Friday and Saturday.

I plan to shoot the first softball game and then the second game of baseball. Not sure how I'm going to do Saturday's games. Probably softball since I haven't had a chance to shoot them much this year.

What a weekend. Baseball had a game ppd because of winter weather in Louisiana, softball had their tournament in Woodstock, GA cancelled for the same and I almost froze shooting the J-Day game!

Actually, it wasn't too bad in Jacksonville Saturday afternoon. Had a great time. Met some former Gamecocks who were in town for the game. There was a good crowd and they saw a really exciting football game. Outcome wasn't decided until the last play. Red defeated White 20-15. It was a very vocal crowd too. Made more noise than some of the regular season games!

The Charley Pell Memorial Golf Tournament was well attended considering it was snowing Saturday morning when it started. I stayed in the clubhouse. Couldn't bring myself to get out to take pictures of the folks playing.

Baseball will be back home this week. Kennesaw will be here Wednesday evening for one game, and then Appy State comes in Friday for a weekend series. Softball will be at TN Tech for the conference opener. I would love to go up for the Sunday game. Hopefully I can work that out.

Not much going on right now on campus. Baseball and softball are out of town this weekend.
Softball will be at Ga Tech for a tournament and baseball is at La Tech.

Football is having their spring game Saturday afternoon and the J-Club is scheduled to have the annual Charley Pell Memorial Golf Tournament Saturday morning. It is supposed to be very cold and possibly some snow so not sure if that is still on or not.

I'm looking forward to several of Duck's famous hamburgers. Best thing about J-Day game!

If gas wasn't so high and the stockcar race wasn't in Atlanta I'd go watch softball Sunday. Guess I'll have to wait until they finally get back to Jacksonville on March 21st. They sure don't have many home games this year and when they do there are several conflicts with baseball. Not sure how I'll handle this. I guess on doubleheaders I'll shoot one game each.

Congratulations to the ladies on the basketball team. They are going to the OVC tournament. The first round will probably at SEMO. The women play the first round at the schools then go to Nashville for the rest. Men start in Nashville. Of course, we aren't going to that one! We are last in the conference.

All the teams are out of town this weekend. You can follow several of the games on the Gamecock website. http://www.jsugamecocksports.com/.

Baseball is scheduled to play UAB Tuesday @ 6:30PM. I heard a rumor that it is going to be 50 cent hotdog night. Not sure on that. Weather is supposed to be brutal though. Another cold front coming through. Come on spring! I don't do cold weather well.

Just a quick note. They cancelled the second game of the double-header in softball last night. Too cold. Gotta say that it didn't break my heart! I wasn't looking forward to freezing. Just hate that it's so long till the next home games.

The baseball team picked up their first win of the season last night. I missed the game. I don't get off work till 4:30 so these 3 o'clock games are too early to make.

Softball has a double-header tonight. The first game starts at 3 but I hope to get there in time to shoot the second game. It's going to be very cold. They won't be in town again until the 21st of March. I plan to go to the weekend games in Atlanta next weekend.

Feel free to leave comments on any of my posts. I don't have anyway of knowing if I'm getting any viewers here.

Looks like Friday night baseball might get rained out. Weather report doesn't sound too promising. I don't know if they'll play 2 Saturday to make it up or not. I know the training staff will be spread pretty thin.

Congrats to the softball team. They won 2 from Chattanooga last night. They will be home next week for a doubleheader against Kennesaw State on Wednsday then went be home again until March 21st.

I hope to have the pictures from last night's game posted tonight. If you want to be notified when I update the site with latest pictures, feel free to email me.

Congrats to both basketball teams for their wins on Saturday and good luck to the ladies in their bid to get a berth in the OVC tourney. They're within a game of making it. There's a chance we'll play Samford in the first round. That would be great. Samford's close enough for fans to make the trip.

Looking forward to softball's home opener against Chattanooga on Wednesday. It's a double-header with the first game starting at 4PM. I'll miss most of that one because of my day job, but I'll get there in time to see the second game.

Baseball opens this weekend. I'll miss the Friday game (work again) but I plan to be there for Saturday and Sunday's games. I talked to Greg Seitz and he tells me they are looking real good this year.

Softball was cancelled due to the threat of bad weather. The rain was late getting here, we could have played at least one game! Now it's going to be another week before the home opener. I'm getting anxious.

If your going to the women's basketball game tomorrow, be sure and wear pink. I stopped by Wal-Mart last night and got a pink shirt. Think that's the first one I've ever owned. Other than a few when I washed color and whites together!

I stopped by Camera Inn yesterday. He has a lens that I would love to have. It's 300mm 2.8. It would be great for softball and baseball night games. I'm saving my pennies.

Hope to see you at tomorrow's basketball games.

Some Ramblings

I've heard that Jim Fuller told SEMO he would not move the game till the end of the season, so it looks like it's still on for the Saturday of race week. That'll hurt attendance I bet.

Alabama State has pulled out of their game and Ga Tech has moved the game to Thursday night. That'll throw wrenches in the tailgate party plans.

We're now down to 9 games in what should be a 12 game schedule. Hope they can pick up at least one game. Haven't heard any rumors about who they are trying to get.

Spring practice starts next week (I think). The J-Day game is scheduled for March 8th. Duck is going to be cooking his famous hamburgers. Worth going just to get one of those!

Also, the "Spring Fling" has been cancelled. I think soccer has a 7 on 7 planned for March 8th. The Charlie Pell Golf tournament is back on at Silver Lakes for March 8th also. I hope it goes better since they are moving it back there.

Looks like I'll be running all over the place trying to get some pictures on the 8th! Should be a fun day.

While I'm here, the rifle team won the OVC tournament for the 4th straight year and softball went 2-2 at Alabama. The softball team is supposed to play UAB tomorrow night but the weather doesn't sound too promising.

Basketball will be home Thursday night. The ladies have only two home games left. These are very important for the tournament play. The top 8 teams go and the last time I checked we were at number 6 which would make for a much more friendly game in the first round!

Upcoming Events

Not too much going on this weekend on campus. I am going to try to get to Tuscaloosa for Saturday's softball games.

Tennis (M&W) are playing Friday, but my "day job" will prevent me from shooting that.

Basketball returns next Tuesday night. The ladies are still in the running for a playoff spot in the OVC tournament. You only have a couple of chances left to see them play.
